Office Chair Thumbnail

Chairs used in offices generally provide both backrest and height adjustment, but manner in which these provisions are to be used is neither intuitive from the design nor is indicated with an additional graphic or so. Thus even in presence of useful features, user suffers due to inadequate information.

Office Chair

Office chairs generally avails Back rest and Height adjustment lever. Most of the people do not know how to use this lever to get desired position and height and end up spending a lot of days with hurting back. Till they learn somehow, through observation, help from peers or trials or struggle one time to get right posture. Basically the design by itself should be more suggestive to the user, be it a first-timer or frequent user.

There is no consistency in different office chair designs available; each design has its own customization mechanism. Moreover when users are subjected to such different type of chairs in daily routine, he/she ends up spending more time and effort in learning how to adjust the height rather than doing it intuitively. User getting to sit and work in a convenient posture should rather be the primary consideration while going about the sitting design. And another important thing is conveying the working of the sitting simply to the user, so that user can do the adjustments without any struggle.

Another important point here is sitting is designed considering the generic height range, but there is not add-on available for people not included in the range. E.g. 5 feet is quite common height for Indian females. Sitting on the office chairs even with setting of minimum height, feet would be in hanging and not resting on ground. People generally manage to make some footrest with resources available.

Taller people on the other hands need to bend and fit themselves in the workstation.
