Plastic moulded chairs

Ravi Shankar B., IIIT, Hyderabad

The plastic molded chairs are light weight and made of brittle material. With heavy load they tend to split at the bottom.

The design of the plastic chair is such that it can not take much load and is difficult to use on uneven surface. Brittle plastic used also causes cracks usually. As they are light weight with no support at the bottom of the legs they tend to split if there is some weight put on it.

The tip of the legs doesn’t allow use the chair on uneven or muddy surface. The back of the chair is also commonly observed being broken or deformed due to tendency of people to lean on their back while sitting.

Giving little more consideration to the leg design, one can actually improve such chairs.
