. . .

The public is more familiar with bad design than good design. It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.

What is UMO?

UMO stands for UsabilityMatters.Org, that is a non-profit organization working towards design awareness and exchange of design sensibilities through interaction between designers and design sensitive consumers.

It is a forum dedicated to discussing, improving and promoting the work of the Usability and Interaction design community in India.
Here you can find bad designs, make-do design inventions (jugaad), feel good concepts and other Design and Usability related stuff.

What we Do?

UsabilityMatters.Org strives to provoke thinking among our peers, to extend the limits of the accepted boundaries of the prevalent practices and to challenge the mediocre by discussions and deliberations that translate into results for a better environment around us.

We regularly organize events to raise awareness and discuss various issues that relate to the HCI, Usability, Interaction Design and Graphic Design community of India.

Some of such initiatives are listed below

You can share your messages and views about the design and usability related issues at our yahoo groups homepage.

Our Blog also hosts an ever growing archive of examples of Bad-design and Cartoons.

Who are the People?

UsabilityMatters.Org is founded by a group of Usability enthusiasts from Hyderabad.

The founder team consisted of Kaladhar Bapu, Ashish Tiwari, Shyam Sundar Durisetti and Ravi Krishnan.

However, this was only the germ of an idea that was taken up and further worked upon by a group of volunteers who come together to host various events.

We call the group of these volunteers as "TeamUMO"

We are working with active guidance of eminent personalities in the field. We'll soon be posting details about the Advisory board of UMO.

How to Get Involved

Since we are a non-profit organization, we do enjoy the freedom from a set of commands that need to be executed per year basis. But then we also need to align various energies into right directions and get as many people involved for a given initiative. The best involvement one can have in such a scenario is to be a volunteer and help take the Design Community in India to the next level.

Other roles of involvement are

  • Volunteer
  • Affiliate
  • Sponsor
  • Sport a Badge
.

Volunteer

Get Registered as a volunteer, voice your views, throw ideas, and share the work with the most active design and usability community in Hyderabad, India

.

Affiliate

Get in touch to know more about how to become an Affiliate.

.

Sponsor

Get in touch to know the detailed plans about sponsoring UMO activities, and making donations etc..

First let me congratulate the UMO for conducting a nice exhibition.

I have seen lots of exhibitions earlier. But this exhibition has recieved lots of good quality cartoons (even the quantity).
The response for Bad design contest is also very good.

All the best for the future events.

hi,i appreciate the dedication for the proposal to do some thing for the country regarding its development point of view as per the news i had gone through the newspaper its ok that all the professionals r planning to sacrifice there time for some designs and plans but is it going to implement like is the government ready to accept the plans we provide themwith do the government have the funds to do so after all the efforts if the government says no for the proposal what is the next step which we can afford to do i want join the group of u people but i need some more information how it works and how it is going to be passed by the state r central government do the sponsoring companies have got any further ideas to do on by them self r else just giving the ideas and plan design for the government and then after the government takes its own decision for implementation if that is the case according my point of view as we all know our government is a corrupted government and the proposed works and the funds for the work will not reach the common people and they don't fullfill them
so if that is the case what the UMO is going to do does it have any further proceedings to deal with r just leave it then and there can u please send me not a huge mail but just a mail regarding what r the things will be done by UMO its a request b'coz in developing the country point of view i my self can afford to do some thing for the country and i can ask some of the people in my day to day life to do some effort

thanking u

Ease of use is 'inversely' proportional to the number of mouse clicks for a website Usability.
For example the best usable systems are ATMs and Cell Phones.
