The importance of user-centered design in healthcare is truly about life and death. "Whether it's new medical devices or technologies; drug research, approval or delivery; patient forms or medical record sharing; emergency disaster planning or increasing the functionality of hospitals and everyday healthcare delivery, everyone is effected in some way by the intersection of usability and healthcare."
In today's world of touch-button technology, we're gently reminded about the human frailty when we, or someone amongst near and dear ones have to pay a visit to the "Hospital". An activity inherently associated with the physical well-being of the human body is now surmounted by the platitude of the machines that surround the process.
The days of ''healing-touch", and an emphatic year of a neighbourhood physician are fast being replaced by the regular hum of a machine taking stock of your full body.
Scans, Monitors, reports, tests, x-rays, and more artifacts like these dominate the health landscape today. But this is not all that bad as it has also helped improve the quality of healthcare.
